"The Kid Power Yoga program has been incredibly successful here. Their whole approach to yoga is very "kid-friendly" and the students have loved it. We have decided to make it part of the school-wide curriculum."
– Peter Celi, Gym Teacher, Fiske Elementary School, Lexington, MA
Young people are natural yogis and a regular yoga practice can greatly improve their overall health, increase their ability to focus and self-soothe and support them developmentally to move confidently through the stages of their lives. It is time to give all kids the benefits of mind/body practices. It is time to be a part of the solution and we are the ones we've been waiting for. This program has been effective everywhere from preschools through high schools, in yoga studios and in adolescent treatment programs as well as a part of training programs for public school teachers and staff nationwide to create a comprehensive approach to mind/body education in the classroom.
It is time to create a generation of empowered kids! Stress in the form of competitive pressure, concern for safety, performance demands and over-stimulation has become the norm for many young people today. Kids are receiving less education about their bodies and health when they need to be receiving more. Kid Power Yoga is committed to the solution. Through the Kid Power Yoga in Schools program young people learn to release both physical and mental stress. In the non-competitive setting of a yoga class, kids learn to work and measure their achievements in terms of personal goals. And as they gain tools for self-relaxation and improved concentration, kids are better able to meet the challenges of their day-to-day lives with an "alert tranquility."
Since 2000 we have offered programming to hundreds of kids (pre-K-12th grade). In 2002 we launched The Teachers' In-service Program: Yoga 101™: "Integrating Yoga into the Classroom Curriculum" a public school initiative. Kid Power Yoga is also being taught currently in Santa Cruz Public Schools.
Mariam Gates, ME.D Director, KPY, has developed a dynamic hands-on workshop in the successful implementation of mind/body practices in the classroom.
